Premier 1 Automotive is the Triangle’s BMW Specialist for Old and New

bmw-teerapunHere at Premier One Automotive in Historic Apex, NC, our ASE certified technicians have noticed there seems to be more and more vehicles sitting in driveways and on the streets that are older than 2010. The average age of vehicles in the United States is about 12 years old.

Regardless of whether it is older or newer sheet metal, vehicles today need the same type of maintenance as a brand new model. It is important to note that at 60,000 to 100,000 miles, vehicles need to have their timing belt or timing chain checked to prevent engine failure at the wrong time.

Most motorists who make sure their vehicles have regular oil changes and tire rotations, often forget that other maintenance checks can make a huge difference in vehicle reliability. Paying attention to detail always pays off with longevity and little issues.

There are many engine air filters and windshield wipers that are never paid attention to until the filter hurts gas mileage or the wipers break. The situation with timing belts and chains are different. When they break, at the very minimum the engine fails. In fact, when the belt or chain does go, the vehicle will need a tow. More importantly, some engines are actually severely damaged when the belts and chains fail.

It is always a good idea to assess all aspects of engine performance when bringing the vehicle in for service with us. As the car ages, maintenance is critical. Check your owner’s manual in the glove box to look at the manufacturer’s recommendations. Any new or abnormal engine noise needs attention as soon as possible.

Pay attention to under the hood noise. A belt can be worn or too loose, and tensioners, idlers, an even the water pump might make noise just before that needed replacement.

At Premier One Automotive we perform services that are necessary and appropriate for the situation. As a proud member of the Apex Chamber of Commerce and the Apex Small Business Network (ASBN) we are local and we are focused on community. Again, we only do what is needed, and we are experienced. If the car sitting in the driveway has over 60,000 miles on it, call Matt our Service Advisor at 919 387 6800 and make an appointment. It could be perfect timing.  Call us today!
