As the Triangle weather slowly warms into spring, it becomes more important to make sure the vehicles driving around Apex and Cary have engine components that stay cool and within normal operating temperatures. An overheated car will cause damage to the engine, which is why it is important to check all fluids within the cooling system. If the temperature gauge on the dash is showing above normal into the hot range, find a safe place to pull over, turn the engine off, and open the hood to disperse the heat.
Quick Fixes on the Road:
- Check your coolant, if it is low refill to the safe line
- Keep an extra bottle of coolant in your vehicle
- Look for leeks in your hoses
- Turn your air conditioning off
- Turn on the heat to disperse engine heat
- Keep a steady speed
- Determine whether or not you can drive

If you are having any issues with your vehicle don’t hesitate to bring it into Premier One Automotive. We will take a look at any issue and give you an estimate at no cost. A stuck thermostat, a loose clamp, low oil or even a leaky hose could be the problem and a quick fix. Continually driving an overheated car will cause serious damage like a blown head gasket, a cracked block or a cracked head. If it is a low oil issue, add the necessary amount and then bring your vehicle in immediately for assessment. Driving your car with low oil could cause a “seized engine”. Replacing an engine is very expensive. So if you are having cooling issues or are worried about your next road trip then bring your vehicle into P1A for your free inspection.
